If you are on a private network with other trusted computers and wish to share files, printers or other resources, you may wish to change the Firewall settings for your network to the "Trusted Zone."

Please open ZoneAlarm by going to the Windows START menu, Programs, ZoneAlarm and choose ZoneAlarm Security. After ZoneAlarm opens, go to "Firewall" on the left and then choose "Zones." Find the entry for your network connection, which is usually called “New Network” and should have an IP Address in one of the “private” IP ranges between 10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255 or 192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255 or 172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255. The IP Address/Site field is broken into two sections, the first of which is the network’s IP range (192.168.0.0 for eg) and the second section “after” the forward slash ( / ) is your subnet. Subnets are often 255.255.255.0.

If and “only” if you have an IP Address which is part of a Private IP range, right click your network connection, which is usually called “New Network” and choose Edit. Change the Zone from Internet to “Trusted”, click the OK button and then the Apply button on the bottom right of the main ZoneAlarm window.

After changing these settings on one or more computers it is recommended to restart the computer to reinitiate Windows networking. If you haven’t already done so, you may still need to configure Windows networking to share files between the computers.
