Removing the password in ZoneAlarm can be a complicated process as ZoneAlarm protects its files to prevent tampering from malicious software. Depending upon your level of computer understanding you may need assistance with this procedure.

When removing the password in ZoneAlarm your program permissions and Local Zone settings will also be removed. This being the case, you may want to make a note of them before continuing. Re-establishing them is a simple process; you will be prompted again for program access for all the applications that you use to access the local network or Internet.

Please restart your pc in “Safe Mode”. This can be accomplished by pressing F8 as the PC starts up (BEFORE the first Windows screen with the black background) and then Select Safe Mode. If you have trouble restarting in safe mode please use this alternate method:

* While in Normal mode, Close all programs.
* Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
* In the System Configuration Utility, on the BOOT.INI Tab and tick the "/SAFEBOOT" option in the Boot Options section.
* Now click the OK button. After pressing the button you will be presented with an option to Restart or Exit Without Restart. Please choose the Restart option and the computer will now boot up into Safe Mode.

NOTE - Do NOT start Zone Alarm while in Safe Mode, or you will not be able to make the necessary changes.

Once you have booted into Safe Mode, please continue.

1.) If you have Windows XP, click Start -> My Computer. In Vista, go to Start -> Computer
2.) Double-click your C: drive, probably called local disk c:.
3.) Double-click on the Windows or Winnt folder.
4.) Double-click the Internet Logs folder.
5.) Please delete the following files here:

- Backup.rdb
- Iamdb.rdb

6.) Close this window, then right-click and empty the recycle bin.
7.) Clear the registry entry with the steps below:

- Go to Start -> Run
- Type in regedit and press OK
- On the left find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Click on the plus next to this and make it a minus.
- Find the SOFTWARE folder; click on the plus and make it a minus
- Find the Zone Labs folder; click on the plus and make it a minus
- Find the TrueVector folder; click on the plus and make it a minus
- Find the Store folder; click on it
- On the right, locate and left click on the 'upwval' entry
- Press delete and then say yes to the alert that pops up
- Close the Registry Editor window

* Empty the Recycle Bin.

When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode you will need to start the pc in normal Windows mode. If you did not use the MSCONFIG program to enter Safe Mode then just restart your pc in the normal manner.
IF and ONLY IF you used the MSCONFIG program to enter Safe Mode, please run it again and uncheck the "/SAFEBOOT" option on the BOOT.INI tab and click OK choose the option to restart your computer.

***Please Note: when you restart your pc you may see a prompt from the Windows System Configuration Utility. Please tick the box for "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows start:" and then click OK.
