At any hour on a university campus, someone may be found accessing the Internet and inadvertently exposing the college network to a variety of outside threats. Saginaw Valley State University needed to secure the University's assets, while allowing the various campus groups the right type of web access to function efficiently. Network Services Manager John LaPrad addressed both problems by implementing ZoneAlarmŽ Pro for around-the-clock distributed security. LaPrad believes a personal firewall placed on the majority of the campus PCs will go a long way toward securing the university network from hackers or from being co-opted in a DDoS attack. And ZoneAlarmŽ Pro is easy to configure allowing some users open access while others are locked down tight - all at a cost that's effective for a university budget.
